May - Here comes the sun (hopefully!)

Longer days and warmer soil sees everything speeding up on the plot.

All systems go!

April saw a handful of bouquets and bunches shared with our lovely customers, but May is the month when things on our plot really start to take off! The soil warms up and the threat of frost disappears, which means we can finally plant out the hundreds of seedlings we've been carefully nurturing for the last several weeks.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be planting out Cosmos, Sunflowers, Poppies, Zinnias, Amaranthus and more that will flower all through the summer.

We're also carefully babying more than 20 amazing Dahlia varieties that we can't wait to share with you later in the year. From huge dinner plates to tiny pom-poms, there's one to suit every taste!

Planning ahead

I can't quite believe we're already thinking about next year's Tulips and Daffodils, but May is the time for flower farmers to order bulbs for 2023! We'll be focussing on amazing double and parrot tulips and fragrant heirloom daffodils, all of which are a world away from the traditional supermarket offering. Below are a few examples of what we have to look forward to next March and April (Images: Peter Nyssen).

May's seasonal stars

May will see our hardy annuals such as Cornflowers, Nigella, Sweet Rocket and Ammi starting to flower. Our Sweet Peas are also looking amazing and should be flowering by the end of the month. They might not have the longest vase life, but they more than make up for it with their glorious fragrance. A small bunch will scent a whole room!

We'll be adding flowers to our webshop whenever we have an abundance, and as a subscriber, you'll be the first to know when the shop is restocked. In the meantime, if you would like a bouquet or mixed bucket for a special occasion, do please get in touch and we may be able to help.

Keep up with our flowery adventures on Instagram
